2008, Live solo/duet performance

The third work in a series inspired by the 1960’s classical picture book ‘Where the Wild Things Are’ by Maurice Sendak. Re-imagining young Max as now deceased, Fiona and Kate embodied his widow and friend respectively and invited the audience to engage in an intimate and slightly ‘wild’ funeral ceremony.

Reviews
“The two performers created a suburban female atmosphere, which was quite absurd. But it wasn’t until Fiona Bryant gently drifted into a solo that the work really took off. Her strangeness and vulnerability was the thing that carried the work off, and I found myself teetering on the brink of intrigue and unsettledness (if such a word exists). Where was she going with this movement? What were these words she was saying to us or to the world in general? As she fell onto me in the audience I grabbed her – feeling sure that this was the correct thing – but somehow it wasn’t, but maybe it was. The show had the feeling of grasping for pieces of eggshell in a bowl of eggs you have just cracked – everytime you tried to connect with it the motion pushed it away from you. (Bad metaphor/Nice feeling.) I like the lo-fi aesthetic, and Fiona’s weird vulnerability…”
