I’ll Crane For You (2008)
2008, Live solo performance

In September 2008 Fiona travelled to Findhorn in Northeast Scotland to participate in Deborah Hay’s annual Solo Performance Commissioning Project (SPCP). This project began in 1998 at the Whidbey Island Centre for the Arts, Washington State, where it took place for five years before being relocated to the Findhorn Foundation Community in 2004. In the SPCP’s eight-year history it has attracted dancers, directors, choreographers and actors from all over the world and to date about 140 solo adaptations have been realised. Participants effectively commission a solo from Hay that she guides and coaches the group of 20 participants in during an 11-day residential-style intensive. At the conclusion of the project each participant signs a contractual agreement to a daily practice of the new piece, for a minimum of three months before the first public performance.
Fiona performed her solo adaptation of Hay’s I’ll Crane for You in the Margaret Lawrence Gallery at the Victorian College of the Arts, Melbourne. Integral to this adaptation was a purpose designed, pliable set constructed from wire and white bed linen. This set was renovated throughout Fiona’s solo performance by performer/stage hand Rob McCreddie to reveal multiple rooms within the vast gallery space and frame different parts of the solo performance.
